Public hearing scheduled regarding right-of-way on Saltillo Road

The Lancaster County board scheduled a public hearing for Nov. 15 regarding the vacation of the right-of-way on Saltillo Road at the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday, Nov. 8.

“The public hearing will provide an opportunity for citizens to provide testimony to the County Board regarding the vacation of certain portions of Southwest 86th Street,” said Chief Administrative Officer for Lancaster County David Derbin.

The right-of-way, which is located off Southwest 86th Street between W. Saltillo Road and W. Bennet Road has been a cause of contention among those who live adjacent to the road because of the amount of accidents that have occurred. There have been six deaths along the road in the past 12 years, according to accident reports from Lancaster County.

As a response to these incidents, Lancaster County engineer Pam Dingman proposed a project to widen shoulders and extend or replace culverts along 2.1 miles of Saltillo Road, according to the Lancaster County website.

“The purpose of the project is to provide a safe and modern roadway, improve the intersection capacity and reliability of the transportation asset, and to perpetuate the mobility of the travelling public,” according to the Lancaster County website page for the project.v
